Driving test readiness
You Already Have a Driving Test Booked
If you already have a practical driving test booked several months in advance, you can still complete an intensive driving course with us. In many cases, it may be more suitable to complete your intensive course first and then, once your instructor confirms that you have reached a safe driving standard, look for an earlier test date through the official DVSA booking service.
Test cancellations can sometimes become available when other candidates change or cancel their appointments. You may wish to check the official DVSA booking service regularly, including during the evening when cancellations may appear, and around 6:00am, when the DVSA website may be updated with newly released test appointments. However, cancellation availability is not guaranteed and can vary depending on the test centre.
If you find an earlier test date, you are responsible for making the change to your own booking in accordance with the current DVSA rules. Your instructor can advise you on whether you are ready to take the test, but the decision to change your booking remains your responsibility.
Swapping Your Driving Test with Another Learner
If you already have a practical driving test booked, you may also be able to swap your test appointment with another learner who has a suitable test date and time. Both learners must already have a car driving test booked and must agree to exchange their existing test appointments. The swap must meet the current DVSA requirements, including having at least one of your two permitted changes remaining and requesting the swap at least 10 full working days before the earliest of the two tests. The test centres and type of test must also meet the DVSA requirements. Swaps can only be arranged by telephone through the DVSA, and both learners must be available to take part in the call. Before agreeing to a swap, you should check with your driving instructor that they are available for the new date, time and test centre and that you are expected to be ready to take your test. Arranging the swap and ensuring that the new appointment is suitable remains the learner’s responsibility. For full details, please refer to the official DVSA guidance on swapping driving tests.
You Do Not Currently Have a Driving Test Booked
If you do not currently have a practical driving test booked, an intensive driving course followed by a suitable cancellation test can be another effective way to work towards your test. You can complete your intensive course first, allowing your instructor to assess your progress and identify any areas that require further lessons or remedial training.
Once your instructor considers that you have reached a safe driving standard, you can then look for an earlier test appointment through the official DVSA booking service Book your driving test - GOV.UK Cancellations can sometimes become available when other candidates change or cancel their appointments.
You may wish to check the DVSA booking service regularly, including during the evening and around 6:00am, when new appointments or cancellations may sometimes become available. Availability is not guaranteed and can vary depending on the test centre.
This approach gives you the flexibility to complete your training first and then look for a test date when you are ready, rather than booking a test too early and having insufficient time for further training.
The candidate is responsible for booking and managing their own practical driving test and for making any changes to their booking in accordance with the current DVSA rules. Your instructor can advise you on your readiness, but the decision to book or change your test remains your responsibility.
Your Driving Test Is Booked Within 12 Working Days of Your Course Ending
To give you the best opportunity to reach the required driving standard, we recommend booking your practical driving test at least 12 working days after your intensive driving course has finished.
Booking your test at the end of your course can leave very little time for additional lessons if your driving instructor feels you need more practice. Allowing at least 12 working days gives your instructor time to assess your progress and, where necessary, arrange additional lessons or remedial training to help you reach the required standard.
Candidate Responsibility
Under the current DVSA rules, the candidate is responsible for booking and managing their own practical car driving test. EasyPass Driving School and your driving instructor cannot book, change, swap or cancel the test on your behalf.
The candidate is responsible for choosing a suitable date and time and for making any changes to their booking where necessary.
Although the final decision to take the test remains with the candidate, your driving instructor will assess your driving standard and safety throughout the course. If your instructor considers that your driving is not yet at a safe standard, they may withhold the use of the training vehicle.
We will not allow the vehicle to be used where the instructor considers that doing so would be unsafe. The additional 12 working days provides an opportunity for further lessons or remedial training where required.
